Wrench Wracing Competition and Concours
Saturday, April 17

Take an enthusiast, a tool, four wheels and too much time on your hands and what do you have? Wrench Wracing!

In past years, Wrench Wracing has become one of the most fierce (and funniest) competitions of the weekend as mankind and tool go head-to-head in search of the fastest. This Pinewood Derby-style race requires little other than an extra tool or two, some time and an imaginative mind.

Watch as kids and kids-at-heart assemble to find out which wracer will be the first to the bottom of the hill. If you are planning on attending the Gathering, this event is one not to miss! It's definitely worth the small effort required to build up a wracer of your own!

There will be both match racing and a popular vote “concours” held for wrench racers. All entries must be:

  • gravity powered;

  • no longer than 9” and no wider than 4”

  • weigh less than 2 lb

  • feature a hand tool as a major portion of their design.

For more information, contact Jamie Palmer.

Barrel Tasting Seminar

Saturday, April 17, 11:00am and 1:00pm
This is a real treat to taste young wines still in the barrel and to try to predict what whey are likely to become.  George Denka, General Manager of Shelton Vineyards, will set up the tours through  the barrel and cave and aging cellars of Shelton Vineyards.  You'll see samples of the 2009 vintage wines still resting and aging prior to blending and bottling.  Learn about the aging process and the methodology that goes in to picking and blending individual lots of wine to produce the product that ends up in the bottle.  All of the wines tasted in this seminar will be dry wines.  Barrel Tastings (limited to 20 participants) will be held at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Space is limited, so reserve your spot early at the visitor center. Cost is $5.00 per person. Shelton Vineyards  will also offer its normal tour and wine tasting for $5. Participants in the seminar receive a commemorative glass with Shelton Winery and Triumph Club logos.
